Identity and home address verification

To ensure the security of your information, it's necessary to provide two distinct documents – one as verification of who you are and another that confirms where you live.

Proof of identity can usually be a passport or driver's license or other documents specific to each country. See this article for a list of those that are accepted.

Proof of Home Address can be a household bill, bank statement, car, home or social insurance document, tax credit document amongst others, they must be dated within the last 6 months. See those that are accepted here under “Address documents”.

The information (name, address, any ID numbers) in these documents must match the information you uploaded earlier in the registration process, before uploading you can double check that on your Dashboard and make any changes by clicking Edit beside your personal details.

Format of upload:

  • Documents must be uploaded in full color (i.e. no black-and-white scans)

  • Documents must be clear and large enough to read

  • Photocopies of documents are not acceptable

  • Documents must be valid and not expired

  • Complete documents must be uploaded. A complete identity document is defined as:

  • Both front and back of a driver’s license or identity card

  • The entire personal information page of a passport

  • Documents can be uploaded in .png or .jpg format (photos and color scans acceptable)

  • If the ID is from the Netherlands, make sure your citizen service number (BSN) is not visible in the photo.

Proof of Home Address document requirements

  • Documents must be clear and large enough to read

  • Documents must be dated within the past six months

  • Complete documents must be uploaded. A complete document is defined as:

  • At least one full page of the document

  • The full name and address of the individual are clearly stated and legible

  • Documents can be uploaded in .png, .jpg, or .pdf format

Why do I need to provide my personal details if I’m applying on behalf of an organisation?

Fraud prevention regulations mean that every organisation must have a representative whose identity can be verified. That’s why your personal details, as the applicant, are required.

Business verification

This document can be a bank statement or utility bill that has the NGO/group/school name, address, and company registration number or VAT number. If you don’t have this number, then enter 0000 in the Tax identification number field on the tax dashboard. The name and address must match what you listed as the “legal business name” at the start of the registration process, before uploading it’s worth double checking this. Access your Dashboard to do so and click edit to make any changes.

NGOs, groups and schools can see the full list of accepted documents here and further information around tax id numbers here.

What "proof of business document" should I upload to verify my non-profit organization?

You can choose "other" and upload any type of document as long as it has the name and address of the non-profit organisation/school/group.

Common issues

  • The name and address entered at the “verify you represent this business” stage of the registration process doesn’t match with the name on the ID, home address. Click here to check.

  • The name and address entered as the “legal business name and address” don’t match with that on the business verification documents uploaded. Click here to check.

  • The product description has not been uploaded (this can just be one line on the project). Click here to check.

  • Documents uploaded are out of date - the business verification document needs to be from within the last 6 months. Click here to check.

  • Documents uploaded are blurry, skewed, at the wrong angle. Click here to check.

  • Not all documents have been uploaded. Click here to check.

  • You’ve registered as a company and should be categorised as an Non-profit (schools, groups, NGOs), contact stripe to change this, or let us know.

  • Not sure what’s wrong but Stripe is still saying updates are needed, we suggest you login to your account and check the contact, “business” and banking details to see where the error notification is and double check all information is correct.
